Lineup set for second televised mayoral debate

DETROIT (AP) -- The second televised debate featuring candidates in the upcoming Detroit special mayoral primary is set for next week.

WADL-TV says the Jan. 7 forum will be held at 8 p.m. But only two of the four mayoral hopefuls appearing in this round have political experience.

The Rev. Nicholas Hood III is a former city councilman, while Coleman Young II is a state representative and son of former Mayor Coleman A. Young.

D. Etta Wilcoxon and Stanley Christmas are political unknowns.

Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr., businessman Dave Bing and former mayoral candidate Freman Hendrix took part a Dec. 2 debate. WADL says other forums for the remaining candidates will be Jan. 27 and Feb. 17 leading to the Feb. 24 primary.

Fifteen candidates are vying for the mayor's job.
